Easter Monday saw the arrival of the sunshine we have all been waiting for over the bank holiday, and it could have been better weather for a wedding at Folly Farm! I arrived to find the bride sat on a hay bale soaking up the rays.
Sophie was a super organised bride (and I love an organised bride!), we had her look planned out but after being totally wowed by a beautiful head piece from Hermione Harbutt she made a last minute purchase so we changed the hair style slightly.
For Sophie’s hair I popped in the heated rollers to get some extra volume, I twisted the back just to give a bit of detail and the we added a few extra hair pieces to give a fuller effect. Using the curls I created a detailed side up do and swept the fringe across to join it.
Sophie’s make up was slightly heavier on the eyes, we used quite a few individual lashes to get a full lash effect along with a natural brown tone to define the eyes. The skin was fresh looking with a light cc cream and a sweep of mineral powder, finishing with a peach blush. We completed the look with a sheer red lip using Runway Rouge from Arbonne.
Sophie’s dress was out of this world, a 1920’s feel to it which suited her perfectly.
I had a lovely time getting her ready and wish Sophie and JP all the best for their journey ahead!
On the Saturday of Easter weekend I went along to the Woodlands House Country Hotel in Brent Knoll to do the hair and make up for Blanca, her mum and sister.
The bridal party were Spanish and they had a lot of their family staying at the small hotel, that meant only one thing…. It was very loud! But it was so much fun, and to be honest hearing lots of people around me speaking in Spanish made me feel like I was on holiday!
Blanca’s sister opted for a lovely simple hair style, it was a volumised half up half down style with small braided details at the side. Fir her make up I created depth on the outer third of the eyes with a brown tone and used black gel liner on the outer third only. I kept the skin nice a glowy with a cc cream and a mineral powder over the top and finished off the look with a light pink lipstick.
Blanca’s mum hardly spoke any english so after a few hand gestures to indicate the hair style she wanted I went through and straightened her hair but flicked the ends, I then put volume through the top with some plumping powder. For her make up I kept it fairly natural with the skin and a soft definition on the eyes, but we finished it off with a bright red lip! I am judging by the thumbs up and the si si si that she was happy!
For Blanca we wanted to create a softly curled side style that had a twisted braid around the back and then all the curls were gathered to the side. Blanca had ordered a lovely headpiece that had peach toned flowers in that finished the style perfectly. For her make up we kept the skin looking soft with a glow, again using a cc cream with a mineral powder and a soft peach blush. Here eyes were defined with a soft and a deep brown shadow and a winged gel liner. To finish off we used a peachy pink lipstick which was Blanca’s own.
I had so much fun with them all and even had an invite to Madrid…..when is the next flight?!
Congratulations Blanca, thank you for including me in your special day!
On good Friday I did the hair and and make up for Becky and her mum and bridesmaids. Becky was getting married at Hotel Du Vin but we were getting her ready at home.
I started with the bridesmaids hair, they wanted the same style for all three of them, I started off by curling the hair. I then did a reverse french braid from one side round to the back, then with the remaining hair I created a messy side bun. For mum I straightend the hair and softly flicked the ends out.
For Becky I curled the hair and then created a very low up do, Becky’s hair was quite short but the style worked well and she had a really cute comb to put in which finished the style perfectly. She didn’t want it to be too neat and structured so we left wispy bits out to give a messier finish.
For the make up we went for natural looking skin, Becky suffered with eczema so we didn’t want to build up too much on the skin as it may make it look more obvious. I used a soft brown on the socket line and outer third of the eyes along with a black gel liner along the top lash line and a khol liner on the bottom water line. To finish off I used a nude lip liner, Boldly Bare and a soft pink lip stick, Love Lorn both from mac.
Becky’s dress was so beautiful and simple and she just looked stunningly beautiful!
Congratulations Becky, thank you for having me as part of your special day.
Last weekend I went along to The Grand Hotel in central Bristol to do the hair and make up for Claire and her bridal party for her wedding day.
Both the bridesmaids and mum aren’t huge make up wearers so we kept it fairly natural for them, a soft brown on the eyes just to define with a brown gel liner and some short individual lashes. Keeping the skin nice a natural and the lips were finished with a tinted balm. For mum I kept it fairly similar but rather than a gel liner I used a plum khol liner which I smudged out a little for a softer definition.
For their hair I curled the bridesmaids hair and then I did a low messy bun on one and a loose twisted up do on the other, I did a blow dry for mum to get some extra volume which worked perfectly with her Fascinator.
For Claire’s Hair I curled it all through, I created a small bit of volume through the top and then used the curls to create a structured details up do at the back. Claire had a beautiful sparkly comb that looked great against her dark hair colour.
For her make up we created a darker eye so that they were the focus, I used browns and charcoal browns from the naked3 palette with a gel liner and individual lashes, I also used a khol liner on the lower water line for extra definition. The skin was kept soft with a mix of mac face and body foundation and arbonnes cc cream and a soft pink blush. I used a nude lip liner and coloured in the whole lip and apply a tinted balm over the top.
Claire looked stunning in her dress and I had so much fun with them all on the wedding morning.
Last week I did the make up for Anna and her bridal party. Anna was getting married at Coombe Lodge in Blagdon, but we were getting her ready in a near by B&B which was absolutely beautiful, in fact I was hoping they might not notice if I moved in!
A family friend was doing the hair so I could just focus on the make up which was nice for a change. I started with the Bridesmaids and we went for a fresh make up look, with soft definition to the eyes, soft dewy skin and a coral pink lip. I used MAC Face and body on all of them along with a light dusting of Arbonne mineral powder to give it some staying power for the day.
For Anna’s mum we went with a slightly more dramatic with a grey tone on the eyes and a fuchsia pink lip.
For Anna we went for a natural but defined make up look, with a very soft smokey definition on the eyes, I used a winged liner and some individual lashes for more depth on the eyes. I wanted to keep the skin looking glowing so I used a MAC Face and Body foundation with a Mineral powder over the top completing it with a soft pink blush. For the lips we went for a really soft natural pink.
I didn’t get to see everyone dressed and ready as they moved round to Coombe Lodge to finish off getting dressed but Anna sent me a pic the next day and all I can say is she looks amazing!
Thank you for having me as part of your special day, it was great fun working with you all! Congratulations Anna.
At the beginning of March I got to do the hair and make up for Jenni and her bridal party. The wedding was at Kings Weston House, a beautiful grand Mansion house in Bristol.
We set up in one of the bedrooms which I think was made specifically for me!
I was doing the hair for two bridesmaids, make up for mum and hair and make up for Jenni.
The bridesmaids had a simple curled loose style which I totally forgot to take photos of!!
The bride how ever I did remember to take photos of! We went for a soft smokey eye with brown and dark plumy brown tones, the pink undertone in the lighter browns made Jenni’s eye colour pop! To finish the eyes I used individual lashes and brown gel liner. I kept the skin soft and opted for a simple mineral powder foundation and a soft pink blush. The lips were a nude tone called Blankety from MAC.
Jenni’s hair was kept simple with a loose wave and a volumed half up half down style, which was finished off perfectly with a beautiful Hermione Harbutt headpiece.
I have seen a few pics from the reception and it looks like everyone had a amazing time! Congratulations Jenni, Thank you for having me involved in your special day.
The very end of February marked Amy’s wedding, who was getting married at Kings Weston House. I went along to her house to get Amy and her mum ready.
Amy had quite short hair but wanted a low messy bun, this style is great as you can make it look like there is a lot more hair than there actually is. I curled the hair to start, I put volume through the top using Batiste Plumping powder and back combing, then at the back I put the hair into three small ponytail and then used the curls to pin sections creating a messy bun.
For the make up, Amy wanted a fairly classic winged liner and bold lip combo so I defined the eyes using a light pinky brown in the socket and a black gel liner, she had amazingly long lashes so no falsies were needed! I used a mix of Arbonnes CC Cream and MAC Face and Body to create a soft fresh looking base and a soft pink blush. For the lips I used Diva, a plum tone from MAC.
I am sure most bridal make up artist will know your job never stops with the final application of lippy, you might end up doing up dresses, pinning button holes tying cravats, the list goes on. The final hour of a wedding morning flies by and on the morning of Amy’s wedding I was happy to help out with little bits an pieces to take some of the stress away!
The sun was shining for Amy so I can imagine their day was amazing!
Congratulations Amy, and thank you for having me as part of your day.
